What's the most meaningful feature of a Schwab Charitable account? Granting to charities. Here, we'll show you how to recommend grants online to over 1.5 million charities recognized by the IRS.
To get started, login to your account. Next, select Grant from the menu or the Grant to Charity button on the right, and then Grant to Charity again. Find the charity for your grant recommendation by typing information into the charity search field and selecting Search. Next, enter the details of your grant recommendation, starting with the amount. Note, you can specify which investment pools the funds will be pulled from in order to process your grant. Once you click on the Which Investment Pools option, simply follow the instruction on the pop-up screen. To save you time in the future, you can also set up recurring grants when you specify the frequency of your grant. You can also select from the dropdown to indicate whether your grant is for the charity to use whenever they need it most, or for a specific purpose, and if you want your personal or account details shared with the charity.
When you're ready, review everything. Certify that your grant adheres to our program policies granting guidelines, and select Submit.
That's it. Once the grant recommendation has been reviewed and approved by Schwab Charitable, the charity will receive a grant award letter with a check.
If you wish to recommend a grant to a charity that previously received your grant recommendation, simply review Recent Grants or Full Grant History to find the charity, and select Grant Again.
Whether you send one grant or ongoing grants to a charity, you'll have made a bigger difference in the world.
