Welcome to a simple, efficient, and tax-smart way to give.
Opening a Schwab Charitable account online takes 15 minutes or less for most donors. Here's what you need. An address, Social Security Number, contact information, and your employer's name and mailing address, if applicable. You also need to review our Program Policies, and agree to the terms and conditions.
Let's review the process step by step, starting on our website, schwabcharitable.org.
At the upper-right, go to Open an Account, then click Start the Online Application. You can either enter your Schwab login ID and password, or if you don't have a Schwab account, select Get Started. First, you'll provide your personal information. Then create your personalized account name. At this point, you can choose to receive account documents electronically through email. Want to add others to your account? That's easy. Enter secondary accountholder details, including email addresses and phone numbers. All accountholders must complete the application process before your account is opened. Next, indicate the source of funds for your account contributions. Note that there is no minimum initial contribution to open your account, and you can make contributions at any time. In addition, you may recommend how to invest your contributions for potential growth that's tax-free. Choose from a wide range of investment pools based on your specific goals. You can also create a succession plan by naming individuals to take over the account, or recommending charities to receive account assets after your lifetime. Now, simply review our terms and conditions, provide your consent in four areas, and click Continue. Your application is set in motion. Any additional accountholders will receive an email, and have 10 days to complete their portion of the application. Once your account is open, you and any additional accountholders will receive a welcome email.
Congratulations. You've taken the first step toward maximizing the impact of your charitable giving. If you have any questions, just ask. We are here to help.
