Giving Back (Joe)
My general feeling on philanthropy is everybody should give back. My parents were really young and we didn't have a lot of money, but because of education, I had a lot of opportunity to be in a position at this stage in my life to give back a lot more than I ever really thought that I would be able to. And because I feel like education has been the key, at least to my own success, I have certainly diverted most of our family's philanthropic money into education, with the notion of it's better to teach somebody how to fish than to give them a fish. To me that's education.
Now that I'm set up in the Schwab Charitable system, I've been very, very happy so far. The account set up was awesome working with an actual person. This person was just very professional and helpful and I just found a tremendous amount of value in that.
I've just found that it's very, very easy. We give to our local church and so I did a quick search, there they were and within maybe forty five seconds, I am set up to now give twice a month through Schwab Charitable. I don't need to fill out any forms, I don't need to do anything with my credit card company, which I would have had to do in the past or write checks – that money's in there and it will just be liquidated appropriately and the church will get its money.
It's truly been an awesome experience and I'm really excited—this is like a new thing for me forever as far as I'm concerned.
