International Giving

There are two ways to give internationally using your Charitable Gift Account:

The first is to give to charities that have nonprofit status in the United States but perform work overseas, such as:

Doctors Without Borders
Delivering emergency medical aid to those worldwide.
Grameen Foundation USA
Supporting micro-credit projects around the world.
American India Foundation
A leading international development organization charged with the mission of accelerating social and economic change in India.

Another way to give globally is through an intermediary organization, such as one of the following:

Give to Asia
Flexible, localized grant-making assistance in supporting a variety of causes throughout Asia.
King Baudouin Foundation USA
Helping U.S. donors achieve their philanthropic goals in Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.
Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors
Managing complex philanthropic issues in remote places.

While the intermediaries charge a fee for their services, they do provide significant benefits, especially in identifying local charities which are legitimate and effective. These intermediary fees come out of the grants the intermediary organization receives, before they distribute the remainder to local charities.
