Schwab Charitable donors now have a new way to broaden the charitable impact of their donations by participating in Schwab Charitable’s Double Give Program. The Double Give Program allows participants to stretch their philanthropy even further by recommending that up to ten percent of their donor–advised accounts be set aside to guarantee microfinance loans to the world’s poorest entrepreneurs, while leaving donated assets in the account invested for potential growth and future granting. It is the first program of its kind.
In collaboration with Grameen Foundation, and powered by the generosity of our donors, we have delivered $10 million in guarantees to date, creating over 150,000 microloans in developing markets around the world.
Microfinance has had a transformative effect in regions of the world where a $200 loan can literally change someone’s life, providing entrepreneurs with the small amounts of capital they need to build businesses, pulling their families up by the bootstraps and breaking the cycle of poverty.
